Folsom, California Real Estate Overview

Folsom is most commonly known for its infamous Folsom Prison. Folsom is a large city with a population was 72,203 at the 2010 census. The city is close to the Sacramento metropolitan area, just 20 miles from Downtown in Sacramento County.

The city's rich history started during the California Gold Rush with the flood of '49ers and was the site for the West’s first railroad. Today, Folsom is a growing city with an abundance of shopping and dining options. It’s also home to a range of high-tech firms, making it a forward- thinking city.

Folsom Dam was built in 1956, providing much-needed flood control and water rights for the Sacramento Valley. The creation of this dam also created one of the most popular lakes in Northern California, Folsom Lake. The dam is located on the southwest corner of the lake. The lake is an estimated 4.8 miles from Granite Bay to the most southern point of Folsom Lake.

Folsom is home to Folsom Lake College, Folsom Dam, Folsom Lake, Folsom High School, Vista del Lago High School and a historic district. It is also home to the largest private employer in the Sacramento area, Intel.

In addition, Folsom has natural features providing green space for its residents. There are plenty of recreational options around Folsom Lake, Lake Natoma and the American River. Around the city, there are trails showcasing everything the city has to offer.
